Since the introduction of Bluetooth 5 in 2016, almost all flagship smartphones and other Bluetooth devices now come equipped with it. It was better than Bluetooth 4.2 by faster data transfer speeds, long range and other improvements. It also featured dual audio meaning you could play same song on two Bluetooth speakers or headphones at same time from smartphone.
This year, Bluetooth SIG in January announced next more improved version called Bluetooth 5.1 with more features that would help with more reliable connections and deliver better across IoT (Internet of Thing) devices. The most useful feature is of direction pointing. Current Bluetooth can only roughly figure distance by its signal strength but new technology allows to pinpoint the direction its coming from. So by distance and direction both, it is able to know the exact location with accuracy down to centimeters. This would be lot helpful indoor for finding lost objects and also indoor navigation. Other features include less power consumption, higher data transfer rates, improved range and connecting to previously connected devices more easily and smartly by increasing number of handshakes. You could check out How to Geek article for more detailed uses and its working. Later this year more and more consumer devices will start including Bluetooth 5.1. You have to wait until they show up.
You would wonder what is WiFi 6, may be you are listening about this for first time. WiFi alliance gave new naming convention for routers, so that people are not confused in names like 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11n.
So next time it would easy for consumers to communicate and decide what WiFi devices they should purchase. Soon device manufactures will stamp according to new naming standards for consumers to better understanding when they purchase new device. Relatively there are very few devices with old WiFi 1, 2 and 3, so no need to worry about that. Soon device manufacturers will start to stamp the naming in that way. New WiFi 6 which is 802.11ax will boast ton of new features that will solve many problems with ultra fast reliable connection and increased upload and download capabilities.
The new standard of WiFi will offer data transmission speeds up to 10Gbit/s which is 40% more than current WiFi 5. It will allows us for smooth 8K video streaming and multiple devices 4K streaming on same network. Improvements in WiFi 6 for hardware and software will increase penetration through solid objects thus facing less interference and increasing range of WiFi. It is also very power efficiently sucking less power out of devices by working smartly.
WiFi 6 is designed to provide seamless connection of devices even in highly congested areas of traffic like airports, malls, stadiums, restaurants, hospitals etc. At home too, it will be very fast and smart between all type of devices. It will provide higher bandwidths to allow gaming or any other uses flawless with very low latency. Although you can purchase now some routers from Asus, TP-Link, Netgear certified with WiFi 6 but there are no consumer devices that support WiFi 6 and give full strength of connection. Soon devices will be produced on scale for consumers to enjoy its new capabilities.

Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6 are the next generation for wireless communication on all type of devices and soon people will look for it as needed feature/spec on their device as more and more devices come out later this year. Both will enhance our daily life by working more smartly moving further to goal of perfect smart home and will revolutionize the IoT in many ways on industrial uses.
